How to Cope With Spring Sinus Woes

Posted on 20. Apr, 2010 by How To in All How To Videos, Feature, Health

17 million American suffer from seasonal allergies.  Laura bravely suffers a sinus nasal exam on camera to show us what irritated sinuses look like.  This video shows you how connected your ears, nose and throat really are.  Because the nose is there to filter, it can “catch” allergens and retain them, causing irritation and inflammation.

The doctor in this video recommends an rhinoscopy prior to masking symptoms with over-the-counter medicines.  During this procedure, the doctor inserts a thin tube with a light and camera on it into the nose and explores the sinus cavity.  The tube is very thin and flexible, to minimize gagging.  Some doctors might try to remove some mucus with the tool.

The idea is that the rhinoscopy can help the doctor diagnose you more accurately, so that you don’t end up taking the wrong over-the-counter medications.  It is also suggested that you keep the air in your home very clean with your air conditioner or even an air purifier, and that you irrigate your sinus passages with salt water.
